Biography

Kathleen Bertolini has had 14 years of experience teaching in middle school classrooms in the suburban Detroit area. Before acquiring a permanent teaching assignment, she had the opportunity to work as a substitute teacher for 2 years in a myriad of classrooms teaching all subjects and all grade levels pre K-12. These experiences helped foster Kathleen’s knowledge and expertise in differentiating curriculum.

Kathleen earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan- Dearborn in Elementary Education with a focus on the Social Sciences and Language Arts. She went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Oakland University in Reading and Language Arts. To keep herself challenged, she chose to return to post graduate school, once again, to earn a second Master’s Degree in Educational Studies. This degree was also awarded from Oakland University.

Kathleen has had the opportunity to showcase her expertise and ideas as a speaker for the Oakland Schools Summer Institute, the National Council for the Social Studies Annual Great Lakes Regional Conference, the Northern Michigan Council for the Social Studies Annual Conference, the Michigan Reading Association Annual Conference, and the Michigan Association of Middle School Educators Annual Conference. She had the pleasure to earn an award from the Michigan Association of School Boards recognizing her district’s success with Differentiated Instruction.

Differentiated Instruction is really a focal point of Kathleen’s pedagogy. She has had the opportunity to be trained by the College Board in Pre-Ap strategies in Middle School Language Arts. Moreover, she has learned some teaching techniques and tactics from the AVID program, which is being implemented in the Middle School building in which she currently teaches.

Kathleen continues to share her enthusiasm for her profession as she drafts, modifies, improves, manipulates and experiments with her lessons.
